Dear Colleagues,
Starting in June 2025, we relaunched the Stem Cell Transplantation Program at Mount Lebanon Hospital University Medical Center – MLHUMC. Over a period of four months, six autologous stem cell transplants were successfully performed, three for lymphoma and three for multiple myeloma. One of the patients had renal impairment (creatinine 4 mg/dL, GFR 19 mL/min).
For multiple myeloma cases, the total hospital stay ranged from 14 to 21 days, covering stem cell collection by apheresis, conditioning chemotherapy, and transplantation. All patients achieved neutrophil and platelet engraftment by days 9–10 and were discharged on days 12–13 post-transplant, experiencing only mild complications such as gastroenteritis and febrile neutropenia.
For lymphoma patients, hospitalization lasted 19–21 days, including conditioning chemotherapy and transplantation, following a brief admission for peripheral stem cell collection. All patients achieved engraftment by days 10–11 and were discharged on days 13–14 post-transplant, with similarly minor complications of gastroenteritis and febrile neutropenia.
This accomplishment represents a key milestone in our comprehensive Stem Cell Transplantation Program, which will soon expand to include allogeneic stem cell transplantation.
